Re: International Football Thread
Our problem under Eriksson was that we were always shit in the 2nd half. Now it seems to be the other way around.
Good night for me personally. England didn't embarass themselves and Cashley Asscole did.

Chris Iwelumo is a legend.
I laughed when I should probably have cried.
Even WALES are going to qualify this time out and we're not.
Stunning.

Re: International Football Thread
Wales won't qualify.
Neither will we, if by some miracl we finish 2nd in the group then some other 2nd placed team will rub their hands with joy at getting to play us and thrash us.
Burley is getting things very wrong right now, McFadden is in no way shape or form a lone striker and he should have been given the chance to stay on and play with a partner when the change was made.
I actually think Iwelumo played not bad when he came on aside from that terrible miss and I would like to see him given another chance. We certainly can't ditch him as this would shatter his confidence should we ever have to call him up again.

You thought wrong then, the 8 best 2nd placed teams will play off in 4 matches for the 4 remaining spots.

But isnt there 9 groups?
Scotland only have 5 teams so they dont get a team in the playoffs. Thats how I thought anyway.

Yes, there are 9 groups, that is why only the 8 best 2nd place teams get into the playoffs.

That's Kris Boyd retired from international football as long as Burley is our manager.
We can't really afford to lose a guy who has scored 7 in 16 matches I feel.

What the hell has Boyd got to do to get a game?? Hes is the best finisher we have, yet we persist in playing Faddy as a CF which he isnt, McFadden excels when hes playing behind the striker. If Burley had to play a winger, drop Morrison and use Boydy as a 2nd striker with Maloney playing either side of them. Thought Broony and Naysmith had excellent games, everyone else was average, especially Darren Fletcher! The only other natural finisher available to us is Derek Riordan who hasnt had enough games for Hibs to warrant a call up yet

And we beat Germany despite most of the first team being missing.
Is it safe to declare that England aren't shite anymore or would that be jumping the gun?

Yeah, last time they won in Germany it was the forerunner to great things.

Re: International Football Thread
We completely outplayed Germany last night with pretty much our B team it was a great performance, baring a few mistakes. Shame about some of the chanting from the England fans and nearly missing my flight, but overall a good day.

Silly Hector.
Beating Germany is the culmination of the year. We won all our Qualifiers and beat Germany as the icing on the cake.
In any case I never said that it made us good or world class, just that it made us "not shite," the same level that the Scottish football team has been aspiring to for years

Re: International Football Thread
The referee in the Republic of Ireland match was an idiot! He continualy got in the players way and then gave the Republic a penalty for a handball that never actually happened not that I'm complaining about the penalty 3 points are 3 points after all, its how I imagine Sweatsock would ref a match. Sitting top with Italy in the group now.
The England game is shite so far, Spain dont even look to be giving 100% and they are still 2 up!

Heh, not me. I don't have assistants so my running path would be completely different. I do sometimes get in the way of the players though. You'd think they'd see me in my illuminous yellow kit.

Dont you get aprents to act as lines men?
Thats what happened when I used to play for my local team, fuckers were always cheating and flagging imaginary offsides with their ASDA bags

ASDA bags
If it's kids football I don't bother but if i'm reffing an adult amateur game I give a coach or sub from each team a flag but it's only for ball in and out of play, not offsides, corners or the direction of the throw. It's ideal for parks where the touchline markings are a bit iffy.

Re: International Football Thread
Well we had as many shots as they did if not more... that's more than we usually manage against good opposition.
That said hitting the back of the net would be nice too.

Re: International Football Thread
But getting more shots ae a team who look like they are cantering isnt really saying much even if they are the best in the world right now. Carlton Cole was unlucky though but I felt he could have hit it early rather than try and round the keeper.
Neither team will take too much away from the game it was just very blah

Sadly England will always have a minority following of arseholes. But this minority is bigger than most. Celtic took 20 times as many fans and didn't feel the need to throw oranges at innocent people.

Can I just say that this might be the first time for many many many MANY years that I buy the England kit. The new one is really nice!
That said, despite its awesomeness, it failed to make Aaron Lennon look less like a pile of shite, albeit a fast moving pile of shite.

It looks like a cricket shirt FFS. It also doesn't help that you described it as very nice'.

I believe I said "really nice"
I like the less is more look, and the collar is a nice touch. One of my favourite Arsenal shirts is the Final Salute one for the same reason. Simple yet elegant.
