    Sting's future in TNA ...

Post  Lex on Sun Oct 05, 2008 1:13 am

... he should be made to retire.

He brings very little to the product these days, apart from a big name star who the booking team have to shoe-horn into storylines where he doesn't fit. At least Angle, Cage, Booker even Jarrett are strong workers who can put on athletic matches. Sting is a throwback to the 80s and 90s style of wrestling where character is more important than ability and is actually doing more damage to the product than good these days. (Especially when he doesn't work house shows).

He needs to put over Joe at Bound for Glory before he goes though.

This same point applies to Kevin Nash.

As much as I can't stand Sting, how do you 'make' him retire?

If you're thinking that TNA management might do it then you'll be unhappy to hear that Sting has verbally agreed to work for them until the end of 2009.

You do a Bret Hart on him and ask him to go work for Vince. Or you pay him off. Or, if they've only verbally agreed to him working there then they can change their mind. Just, get, rid of him!

I can't see it happening for a few years, sadly.

That's kind of my point though. They need to do it now in order to make TNA better. It's a bit like WWF in the mid-90s, Austin and co. were never able to flourish until Nash, Hall and Bret were gone to WCW (and to a lesser extent, HBK got injured). Sting (and Nash) need to retire to make room for the younger guys, or at the very least let them do their thing without constantly being associated with them.

Sting's ONLY value for years has been against (deadman) Undertaker

as a short term nostalgia act, booked correctly (so that is out of the question) he could be FAR more useful in the E, but he would never sign for them so that is out of the question

Sting still has some value when he is booked consistantly and logically. The issue is when they use him for a while, then he disappears for a while, only to show back up again. Having him in his role of trying to teach respect to the young guys in TNA is not where he should be overall.

I respect Sting as a performer, but even I will say that he is at the point where he should really think about getting done in the ring.
