So, starting off with Sport...and remember this isn't "greatest" or "best", just the most defining for you. Amir Khan being dumped on his ass in the first round is as valid as the Tampa Bay Bucs winning the Superbowl

These are all just suggestions of some big big moments, but obviously there are more...for me there's Dave Roberts' stolen base against the Yankees in 2004 ALCS, The British Olympic cycling team in 2008, The arrival of Braun GP, the death of Marco Pantani, Lasagnagate...If you have something specific to you, use "Other" and pick it - I couldn't put everything in the poll.

And remember, don't just pick, say why it was so telling for you.

Definitely the Sox in 2004. Not only ending the curse, but coming down from 0-3 in the ALCS to beat their arch-rivals and then sweeping the World Series.

For me it was Lewis Hamilton winning the F1 World Title on the last corner of the last race last year.

Was a great end to a great season, unlike this season which was as dull as dishwater.

Liverpool's comeback in Istanbul. Greatest sporting moment I've ever seen, and I'm not even a Liverpool fan.

I think I might have to agree with Outlaw on this. I remember watching this in the pub with my brother, his missus & a couple of friends, we were all in agreement that Liverpool were stuffed & we were all thinking about heading off and not watching the rest of the match. Luckily for us we decided to stay & watch the second half. cheers

Got to jump on the bandwagon. Liverpool overturning the impossible is argubaly the best sporting/footballing moment in the last 10 years.

    Guys guys guys.....

I've swapped out the football option from Man Utd to Liverpool...It was late, I knew there was another but it just slipped my mind.

But please, pick an option in the poll as well, or I may as well just not have tried to pick options. Explain it in the post, but vote from the list - "other" if you want, but it'll be interesting to see the trends as well.

    Edit: D'oh - I couldn't see them because I didn't vote yet.........what a spoon!

Edit 2: Iroinically as someone had voted for Man Utd (now an "other" and for liverpool as an "other" the votes still work - kewel!

For me, it's breaking the curse. Thistledroyd had been a baseball fan for yoears and had been down during the Yankee's drubbing in the world series a few years earlier, so I'd seen a little hen, but in 2002 I joined bet365 during the off-season and, when the 2003 season stated, I decided to pick a team to support to help me learn to make taking bets easier.

So I came onboard with Big Papi, pretty much, and being a trivia buff I started learning about the layers and the history straight away. By the 2003 post season and "Yank Aaron" Boone's homer I was completely hooked, and I knew how important the curse was. So to see that broken, along with, as was mentoned, the stolen base, the comeback in the ALCS, the eight game run and the WS sweep was just a major thing.

Even more, given the yankees went almost 10 years without winning, it had that same "passing the torch" feel as it did when Liverpool, Everton and Tottenham dropped away and Arsenal and Man Utd took over as the big teams in England at the end of the 80s/early 90s.

(and yes we were there, you sarky buggers - 4 FA cup finals (3 wins), one league cup final, a UEFA cup win and five top 4 finishes in 11 seasons in a decade when trophies were being contested by everyone from QPR to Wimbledon to Norwich)

Think we need honourable mentions to Tiger Wood's & Roger Federers "decade of destruction". The recent revelations about Tiger should in no way diminish the guys sporting achivements. Fed has been awesome & but for a bout of really nasty glandular fever, would have many more trophies in his cabinet.

For me it's Charlton's Div 1 (The real 2nd division) title win in the 1999/2000 season!

But to remove my bias it has to go to Lance Armstrong by a long long way. It may end up being this century's best achievement, let alone sporting.
