What killed your interest in Wrestling?? (if it has been killed that is!)

Post  Rooq on Tue Nov 18, 2008 12:11 pm

Since there is a thread saying what got you into wrestling! I wondered if it has happened, what killed your interest in wrestling!

For a year now I havent watched wrestling as quite frankly I find it dire now, boring, predicatble and just cant get on with the new wrestlers, Cena, Miz, Morrison to name a few just made me bored of wrestling and the predictable storylines and Vince being on TV all the time just made me go "Hmmm where is the remote!" used to be days that I would always pay or watch PPV's record raw or smackdown, but now, just last week I threw out a load of old WWF PPV videos as I didnt want them anymore and couldnt be arsed to put them on Ebay or anything!

Think I have just grown out of it now, is a shame but even watching my past faves like Taker, JBL, Punk i just dont want to watch anymore and am bored of it... even Nash's hair doesnt make me go "Oooo!" like it used too... shame...

It's interesting how a lot of people mentioned Royal Rumble 2000 as getting them in to wrestling as that event was the first nail in the coffin as far as I am concerned.

Before that event I would watch both WWF & WCW but I was disgusted with the Mae Young flash that I became a bit of a WCW fan boy during a time which was probably the worse in the companies recent history. Obviously I wasn't completely put off at this stage as HHH V Mick Foley was a fucking awesome fued likewise the Machon-Helmsley era was very entertaining, but for the first time I started to favour one company over the other.

As the year went on for some reason I swayed a lot more to WCW, I think they had Jericho and Chyna has joint IC champs or something stupid and for some reason I was really getting in to WCW, must of been the new blood fued Suspect

The invasion storyline, in particular the DDP stalker angle is what pretty much stopped me watching it, although I did come back when Brock Lesnar was around as he seemed like a decent talent but he buggered off, Beniot and Eddy had their title runs cut short and I lost faith in it. Still watch Wrestlemania and the off free to air ppv though as the concept of wrestling is something I'm still fond off.

My interested has been dying slowly over time and I think it is because of to many wrestlers wrestling with real names and no gimmicks and shit enterances.

There is no magic or intrigue watching Paul London vs Shannon Moore in tights and boring enterances. I much prefer watching Rowdy Roddy Piper coming into the ring with bagpipes playing, the kilt and a rebel attitude vs oh say Hulk Hogan with his real American song and antics on the way to the ring or maybe even The British Bulldogs vs The Killer Bees.

Wrestling basically has become a boring "sports" show instead of an entertainment show, at least to me. Maybe with some luck and this new move away from sports WWE will recapture the gimmick age. I dont want them to go to extreme but having someone like Doink the Clown or George the Animal Steele would be a breath of fresh air. Definitely need some Undertaker, Heartbreak Kid, JYD, Ultimate Warrior, The Rock, Mankind, Original Kane, SCSA type personal on the roster.

Hulk Hogan as Mr. America. I felt insulted by that angle and it killed my interest. Before that I was a hardcore fan, but I stopped watch altogether after that, only Benoit winning the belt at WM20 got me back watching it but I'm not nearly as interested as I once was.

I still love and watch wrestling but not as much due to working now at times when I cant afford to access it. Crying or Very sad

I dont think I will ever stop watching as I like all the crap around it. I really enjoy the crappy things about wrestling like Vickie Guererro being really bad and Mike Adamle period. I dont take wrestling too seriously anymore and just find it a decent release from it all.

Plus I still get to watch some of my favourites and I still love the athletic side to it. Not just from guys in WWE but all over the world.

I know it aint as good as it used to be but I still enjoy it as much as I ever did.

Smash.

Seriously. It's all your fault. First the main site, and then browsing the forums for a year or two before actively joining them.

Before that I was buying any shite the WWE was putting out and I was fine with it. I thought the Invasion was a good angle, that Big Show was the best wrestler on the roster and that Austin was a prick.

Then you lot ruined it by turning me into a smark.

Thanks a fucking lot.
