What is wrong and what is right about TNA?

Post  Screwjob97 on Sat Jun 27, 2009 9:01 pm

Just wondering what the rest of Smash thinks about TNA. The bad things and the good things, just anything going on in TNA, good or bad.

Cheers.

Good: X-division and their tag divison.

Bad: Pushing of old WWE stars at the expense of up & coming talent.

mmmm, sounds a bit familiar.

WWE now? When have they ever had a good cruiseweight division?! Very Happy

Also for bad add that they have matches with stupid rules, like the king of the mountain and the reverse battle royal...

I ment more the bad bit, the good in WWE now is midcarders having great matches (x division), the bad is exactly the bad up there ^^

WWE haven't had a good tag division since the 90's. And I think it was ShowStealer who mentioned that TNA push old WWE talent. TNA will never be able to get into competition with WWE when still using Kevin Nash, Scott Steiner and possibly Booker T in the main event.

The X Division is awesome, in my book and I suppose the reverse matches aren't exactly winning anyone over. WWE has a solid midcard level, but Shelton Benjiman should have gotten a push years ago. Kofi Kingston is the same, he is going to be a midcarder for life, he never got any momentum he deserved after the WrestleMania performance he put on, he got jobbed out to Big Show the following week on SmackDown!. I know, it's Big Show and WWE have to make him effective by squashing thing infront of him, besides Taker, but for goodness sake, give Kofi something.

I think it begs the question, what are WWE going to do with there young-midcard talent, push them or job them out to Khali, Henry and Show every week.

I gather you're asking because you don't think it could be the obvious, throwing someone in to the ring! Surely it can't be that stupid! But sadly it is!

The king of the mountain match involves a 2 minute sin bin and mounting the title on to a hook! It's actually not that bad but feels more like a Japanese game show than a wrestling match.

Not seen it before? TNA love their backwards ideas. King of the Mountain is essentially a reverse ladder match.

He's responsible for Austin vs McMahon, Kane vs Undertaker, DX, etc, so his ideas aren't entirely bad...

Russo's only really bad when he's calling the ideas himself, like in WCW in 99/2000. Austin v McMahon was his idea but heavily controlled by Austin and McMahon themselves.

A lot of people have jumped on the anti-Russo bandwagon, mainly thanks to the internet. Now I'm not the biggest of Russo fans and a lot of his mistakes are hilarious, but how many companies have a single writer in sole control? He had some great ideas in WWF and he was also responsible for giving Booker T the strap. There was no one in WCW who deserved the belt more than Booker, and I included the radicals in that assessment. It takes guts to make a decision like that within the Time-Warner AOL corporate structure. He also gave Lance Storm the biggest push he had in his career. If you appreciate the stress he was under to get ratings that week, rather than a long term goal to steadily improve you'll give him a lot more respect likewise Bischoff who is one of the best bookers of all time. WWE wouldn't exist now if Rusco (or someone else) wasn't there to stop there predictable bad guy beats on good guy who then makes a comeback formula. Sleep

Did you know that that crash helmet he used to wear wasn't a gimmick?

I never knew that Russo was responsible for everything the Stig had written and also I never knew what ShowStealer said about the Booker T push I never thought it was Russo who gave Booker the push, I figured everything in WCW was done by Eric Bishoff.

I agree with OutLaw2x4's point. That Russo,in 199 in WCW, wasn't great.

I guess I was harsh to Vince Russo.
