Remembering 9/11

Post  Mtank325 on Sat Sep 12, 2009 2:47 am

God, it's amazing to think it was 8 years ago that this happened. It's one of those moments where you know exactly what you were doing and where you were when it happened.

I remember being in history class, being told and everyone in the class thinking it was a joke. Spent the next two classes all huddled around a 20-inch tv watching the broadcast live and seeing the two towers crumble. History channel had a special on it with a lot of candid footage and it was terrifying just watching it. I remember posting about it back on Smash that night as well.

I also remember going to a Yankees game a few weeks ago and seeing almost a stadium full of cops and they even had snipers on some of the buildings. There was also a plane that went overhead during it and everyone was pointing at it.

'Flashbulb memory' I believe it's called. It's the same for JFK's and Diana's deaths apparently.

I remember I was walking home from school and got a text from a friend saying "half of New York has been destroyed." While not strictly true, I got home, turned on the news and saw the now well known images... horrific and amazing at the same time.

There was a documentary on channel 4 this week about the calls from the twin towers after the planes had hit, kind of made it more real for me. Untill then it had just been 2 buildings that came down but that show made me realise what the people and fire fighters in the top floors went through it was awfull.

I will always remember the amount of people jumping out of the tower, it makes you wonder how bad it must of been up there if jumping was seen as a better option.

I came back from six form and the tv was on, I think only the first tower had been hit then. When the tower collapsed I understood how many deaths there probably were. Gruesome stuff!

I was fairly lazy in them days and was awoken by a text from a mate, thats said tuen on the TV, weird stuff, one odd thing I remebber is that a few days later there was another plane crash in America and for a while it seemed like another one but it turned out just to be an accident.

I'd been staying over at my then-girlfriends house, and had just returned home when the news bulletins were showing. I was in a rush because I was running late for work so I didn't really pay that much attention to the TV, it was only when I actually set off for work & listened to the radio that I realised something seriously wrong had happened.
