The Irish government have complained to the Scottish Government about the Rangers fans singing a song called "The Famine is Over Why Don't You Go Home?"

Hopefully the fact that governments are getting involved means that something serious may actually be done for once.

Is it not kinda 6 & 2 3's? If they hit Rangers for it, then it's Celtic's fault for starting it etc? You can't hit one without the other appearing to have the moral high ground. At the end of the day, what exactly are they going to do? The SPL won't be interested in anything other than token punishments.

I know I'll be accused of bias here but surely even the neutrals can see that at the minute Rangers are by far the more guilty party. It's been a long time since I've heard prolonged sectarian singing at a Celtic home game yet every week at Ibrox you can hear 'No Surrender' and the vile songs about Jock Stein.

Both sides still aren't doing enough to stamp it out at away games IMO and by the time the SPL grow a big enough set if balls to do anything about it football will be obsolete and we'll be living on the moon.

True mate, although both glasgow clubs are bad for it, the Gers have always been the worst.

On another note, wait until Riordan is match fit...Deek, Fletch and Nishy upfront?? Lovely!! Bring on the Jambos!

    No we dont.

It's "Edu, Edu" we sing. Not once have I heard that chant and I go to most Rangers games and have done so far this season.

And this chant can be done without. It is a shite song and I can see why it may be deemed offensive but it really is just a dig at all the plastic Irish that are Celtic associated. Always so offended.

I have seen some of the eejets around the net decrying Gers from the Celtic side. You lot have won 3 in a row...why you so uptight? Christ. Plus I have heard a lot worse coming from Celtic fans. Why dont we just agree that there are scum elements in both our ranks?

Talking bout the Famine Song by the way. Just to add...I hope we would be a more imaginative than this chant but whatever. It aint something I sing along with.

Is it not going to take one team to be the first to stop though? The same as you'll doubtless get at work "he started it"? I know it's a minority, but somebody has to be the grown up team.

Both teams are as bad as each other and sadly the sectarian element does attract fans to both clubs. I've heard some nasty stuff from the Celtic fans, most of which is counted with the chant Glasgow's not in Ireland.

Annbank are closest, not been to see them but have been to a couple of Auchinleck games, I think they are second closest. Not been more often because I am usually up at the Morton games as they play on Saturdays. During the summer (May June) they tend to play a lot of midweek games so I should probably make more of an effort then.

And so you should, a day out watching the juniors can be great fun particulaly if they have a wee social club that serves a nice pint like my local side. The abuse they give the refs can be quite amusing even if it does worry me that it could soon be me taking the pelters from the old committee guys. I try and watch Shettleston any Saturday that Celtic aren't at home and I'm not on a match these days.

Can't believe you have gone and watched the bigger team in favour of the smaller (and closer) team though Hector. Surely you're not turning into a glory hunter? Wink

    Why is this thread sticky?

Anyway, another loss for Morton today, that's us 5 points adrift at the bottom, letting in 3 goals in 5 minutes is not good.

We need a change of manager - again. And someone new picking the new manager, our chairman has now made 4 or 5 terrible appointments in 7 odd years.

I am not stunned we are struggling. Everyone knew we needed full backs because we had none, yet we failed to sign any. We signed a striker from down south, then put him back on loan down south after he had played about 3 games. The manager is falling out with the players and the pampered players go running to the chairman whenever something happens that they don't like. Ridiculous state of affairs. Our win against Hibs makes our poor league form all the more galling, the players can turn it on when they want to but there is a distinct lack of effort against teams of our own level.

Still, on the bright side, Rangers are losing Smile

Aberdeen will go bottom if the Midden hold on, or pick up a point.

Sad Rangers fans complained to Coronation Street bossed when character Tony Gordon said he could no more fancy Rosie Webster than support Glasgow Rangers. This made the producers change the script for a future episode which I am furious about.

    Imagine complaining about that.

It is still "Edu, Edu" whatever you think. I am in the crowds for most games and that is what we sing. Not that it matters.

So we have the Scotland game next.

Any predictions? I am hoping for the win of course and think we will scrape a 1-0. DOnt think we have a tonne of goals in us to be honest but here is hoping.

Pete, I was at the last OF game and was about 40 yards from the Rangers support. It was definetely 'He Knew, He Knew' on that occasion. I'd also like your opinion on the famine song? Do you think it's acceptable for such anti-irish sentiment to be spewed from the Rangers support?

I'm almost sure your more like myself in that you wish the OF didn't have this type of fan base but just wondered how you felt about the recent actions from a large section of the Rangers support which for me have been deplorable.

Oh, and Scotland will win 2-1.

Guess we will just leave the chant of "Edu" or "He Knew"...it doesnt matter as I said. If it was "He Knew" then it definetly is not now. Celtic away was one I didnt get a ticket for so I trust you on that one since you were there. I apoligise.

My opinion on the Famine Song? I personally dont partake in it as not only is it a complete dirge of a "song", I just dont find it that funny. I do think however that it is a bit of banter taken way too seriously. Now it gets sung more and louder. I reckon it woulda died down a bit had a big deal not been made of it.

Wish our fans wouldnt sing it. Surely a bit wittier than that!

Very sad day for Dundee Utd, Eddie cared a lot about his team, a true Arabs fan first and foremost (if only Rod Petrie showed half the passion Eddie did for his team) . When they played Rangers in the cup final I so badly wanted Utd to win, not because I cant stand Rangers, but mainly for Eddie who despite having prostate cancer, battled on and set about improving the Tangerines fortunes. A character that will be missed in Scottish football

    Rest in peace Eddie

Good to see the SFA are as on the ball as ever with their finger on the pulses... Why exactly has it taken them this long to get involved in the neverending Famine Song saga?

Having said that, I still feel it's deplorable that everybody and their dog is up in arms over this song and yet the pro-IRA singalong that TGFITW regularly spew out is being ignored.

    Just my tuppence worth.
