You know we would have been discussing these all summer anyway. Do you think your team improved in the transfer window, or did you buy a bunch of complete Darren Bents?

    I'll start

    Tottenham

Heurelhio Gomez - Kind of Grobelaar like in his eccentricity at times, but, as he showed tonight, is generally a very good and very mobile shot stopper. Did I hear Setanta post-match comparing him to Booby Mimms though? Most of the goals we've conceded so far this term have been due to terrible marking or unfortunate deflections or rebounds. Could well prove to be worth the money once our back four get settled.

Vedran Corluka - Don't care how good he is, when you need a big money striker, spending over £8 million on a reserve right back is a mistake. He'll only be worth the money if the plan is to move him to CB to cover King and Woody when injured, because Dawson is becoming more of a liability as this slump continues. He's class with King but I just don't trust him without him.

Luca Modric - Has talent, just haven't seen him yet. Hope the fans give him more time, but seemed to cry off when the going got tough tonight. If he wasn't badly injured, he'll have to give 110% for the next few games to keep the fans on his side.

David Bentley - I've always had some reservations about him. Over-hyped, then he showed his character over the England situation last year. But of all the players we brought in, has impressed most. We're morebalanced and more incisive whe he's on. He and Lennon on the wings has been one of the best parts of our play the last four games.

Giovani Dos Santos - Has yet to show why he was so well rated, but he's young, he's beter than Boateng and he's going to work well as one of five rotated attacking midfielders.

Frazier Campbell - Hasn't played yet, and I don't see the point in progressing a player for Man Utd when we have the equally impressive Tomas Peckardt and we just loan him out. Why not keep TP and make United pay more? No more money and we pull the deal, and they've lost out by chasing only him.

Roman Pavluychenko - Hasn't played yet either. Seriously. Was totally anonymous against Villa. He's also tainted with being "the Russian we COULD get". Given who we sold, he's got maybe three games to start scoring before the fans turn on him.

    Celtic

Georgios Samaras - Great buy. What he lacks in finesse he maks up for with great running and an eye for goal. Lovely touches as well.

Shaun Maloney - Another good buy, great to have him back and should keep Naka or McGeady out of the side at the minute IMO.

Marc Crosas - Not seen enough of him yet but he looks like a more forward going Paul Hartley which would be a great addition.

Glen Loovens - Only played once but on that showing I'd have him in the team ahead of McManust right now.

    Arsenal

Samir Nasri - Fitted like a glove and his workrate has really worked wonders on top of his obvious talent. I was in the minority of Hleb supporters, but with his ice cream sessions with Inter coming to light a parting of the ways was obvious and as usually does happen with Arsene resulted in a step forward from his departure (Cole to Clichy, Lauren to Eboue to Sagna, Edu to Fabregas etc). Bringing goals and more importantly having a stronger head on his shoulders to handle his key part in establishing our counters (as good as Hleb was for spells last year, his confidence still hit a lull and hit his form for long periods, particularly from November onwards), Samir really has warmed himself to us lot at The Grove. Being able to play in the centre is an obvious bonus as he offers a viable replacement when choosing to rest Cesc and while Rosicky is on the treatment table offers us Wenger's much loved attacking midfielder on the wing. We could still have done with an out and out winger to be blunt, but getting a talent like Samir can't be passed up, particularly with how he suits Wenger's choice of play.

Amaury Bischoff - Now I admit to knowing little if anything about this lad, and with his injury coming in (just coming back to fitness over the next month or two) it hasn't offered a chance to see why Wenger was prepared to take a shot at bringing the lad in, what with the numbers we have coming through at his age in the midfield area. But Arsene has done more than enough to warrant a gamble, and while Malz, Danilevicus and Alberto Mendez didn't really set the world alight (to name but three) this lad seems to have quite the plaudits from those supposedly in the know. According to Amaury he likes to play behind the striker in the hole, or anywhere across midfield, so a nice addition to the numbers should one of the prospects like Randall, Lansbury, Wilshere get lost on the way. Knowing Arsene it will probably be another sneaky masterstroke mind.

Aaron Ramsey - Again didn't see a great deal of the lad before his move here, other than the FA Cup showcase he had. Judging him on the preseason matches he looks very handy, if to criticise a little weak (understandably so). Clever lad and bold in attempting some crafty passes (setting up Adebayor Saturday an example) but not in my eyes at least the player as dubbed when we were chasing him, and far more attack minded than I expected. Not that that is a bad thing, but more along the lines of as I was saying with Amaury, we already have some lads in that mould (although admittedly not as far down the line as Ramsey) which could have gotten the chance Ramsey will surely take. Of course the best man gets the job rather than being sentimental in showing faith to lads we already have, but it just seemed strange as I/we were lead to believe we were getting a Carrick type. More a Fabregas cover than a partner from what I have seen thus far.

Mikael Silvestre - One of those signings so out of the blue that it took about a couple of days to digest it, but when thinking logically it makes a lot of sense saying that the main cover we have in defence are now our youth prospects, so a Mikael to cover and help them progress alongside him is a good move by Arsene. He seems to believe he is CB cover rather than cover for Clichy but we shall see, and he may even get his debut tomorrow against Kiev. With Djourou winning the battle over Swiss Tony for the other berth, Silvestre is handy to have and may even get a nice run himself with Toure and Gallas still struggling over a prolonged period to sustain a decent partnership what with being so similar...but then Mikael himself isn't that dissimilar. With his injuries problems as well, he fits right at home with Robin, Abou and Tomas.

Francis Coquelin - Looked more than handy in preseason. Admittedly at 17 he shouldn't really be pushing for the first team just yet, but looked a exciting prospect in the DM role, and with our departees there and Arsene's faith, he is in with a shout for a shot should people like Diaby continue to sit in the treatment room. Of course it will take playing in the hustle and bustle of Prem football to see what he is really made of, but he was a pleasant surprise in seeing how developed he was at his age and hopefully bodes well for his future and he doesn't either lose his way or get lost in the shuffle.

I know it is about transfers, but Carlos Vela definately deserves a massive thumbs up with him finally making his way to The Grove. He looks a super prospect, very Eduardo esque, and with his few years in Spain working along the program that the Arsenal Fitness Staff set for him seems to have the build to match his technique which will obviously aid him in the Prem. Hard to see whom he will dislodge uptop, but he will definately be in with a shot for games when the flights to weird and wonderful places for Mexico friendlie's eases off. Then (you've probably heard of him by now), a certain Jack Wilshere. I know I have form for getting too caught up with our youth players and building them up only for them to knock themselves down spectacularly, but young Jack brings a smile to my face everytime he touche's the ball. Definately a special talent, and already got his no.19 shirt. I'll stop boring you with my love of the lad, but do keep an eye out.

    Hibs

David Van Zanten- Needed a decent RB since Whitty went to Ibrox, he's ok, nothing fancy. Not the greatest defender in the world but a solid attacking fullback.

Joe Keenan- The pick of Mixu's summer buys so far, looks a handy replacement for Boozy. Has shown he can play a bit.

Steven Thicot - First few games he played he's looked a very good signing. If only he'd been fit to play against the Arabs at the weekend. When he is fit, he will make that holding midfielder role his own. Strong, good tackler, and is still very young!

Sol Bamba- If he is gonna get a game, it wont be in midfield where he played at the weekend. It'll be in place of Jones,i dont understand why he is still captain, he's a useless big lug, Bamba at least has pace.

Derek Riordan- Totally wasted at Celtic, delighted Deek has come home! Pisses me off that they have made a profit of him yet never played him, cheeky bastards want a sell on fee too?? Ah well at least we got him! No doubting Derek's natural ability, hoping he's grown up a little and not still a wee ned. Riordan and Fletcher upfront is a mouthwatering prospect, when fully fit, the goals will flow. Plus there's Nish as well who can find the net

Fabian Yantorno - Shone at Gretna when he was there, looking forward to good things from him when he gets a run in the team

Well loadsa signings for ipswich, so here we go...

    Kevin Lisbie

Has an amazing scoring record that would make Pele quake in his boots!!!! . . . . yeah im being sarcastic, had one good season in his whole career so Magilton went Oooo he must be good!!! scored a couple of goals so far, but has missed more than he has scored, will see how it goes but so far, bit hit and miss.

    Richard Wright

No idea what is with Magilton trying to resign every single player who used to play for Ipswich, was good in his day, but now his knees are gone, he cant bend down to save his life! so must suck if he drops something on the floor at home, he be bending down for ages, still a good shot stopper, but not great.

    Ivan Campo

Awesome hair, and when he does play Ipswich look a different side, not gonna last 90 minutes and will probably fade near the end of the season, but so far, been impressive!!!

    Pim Balkestien

One for the future, havent seen much.

    Jon Stead

Another striker with an awesome record of scoring goals!! yeah what ever, what is it with Magilton and signing strikers who score 1 goal every Millenium! twat...

    Gareth McAuley

Hmmm... ok was a defender in a team that was relegated! should tell you all you need to know, but no, Magilton goes and signs him! so far has been terrible, many of the goals Ipswich have lost have been down to him, maybe taking time to settle in but at the moment, been yet another Magilton flop signing.

    Arsenal

Nasri - Hyped as the next Zidane before we bought him. Not convinced to that level but he certainly looks like he could be another of Wenger's gems. Very impressive start!
Vela - I know we signed him ages ago but this is his first season. Looked very good pre-season, hopefully will make a big impact when given a few games.
Ramsey - Haven't seen much of him but he gave a very nice touch for Adebayor's final goal against Blackburn. Wenger obviously sees something in him to keep him in the first team.
Silvestre - I'll reserve judgment till I see him play... which could be never since he seemingly can't sneeze without injuring himself.
Bischoff - Hmm... not sure why we bought him but as we always say "In Arsene We Trust." We didn't pay anything for him so we've nothing to lose.

I'd also like to say that I'm surprised Wenger let Senderos go out on loan. If he's not good enough why not just sell him? Certainly leaves us with a lack of cover in the centre.

In truth, Arsene Wenger's let Senderos go because the player couldn't make the first team spot his own. Coupled with Djourou's preseason form, and the form towards the tailend of last season of Song, he has clearly deemed him not good enough consistantly to cement his place and it's time for him to get regular football somewhere to rediscover and hone out that potential he has shown in him when his head is actually at the races. To keep him on at Arsenal would send the wrong message to players like Song, who I expect to have a big season ahead of them.

Being a loan, I think it was simply down to Arsene letting another one of his lad's get their wish and finding a deal and suitor (Milan not wanting to match our price tag without some groundwork from Swiss Tony to prove he is worth it). The plus of the loan deal is that should he find himself again and can build some consistency along the lines of the Paris CL run, that he can return fresh and be compared to Song/Djourou on the back of their own runs this season. If he does set the world alight and Milan wish to keep him, we'll get the fee we've put on his head, so a plus for us both ways...well unless he has a stinker. He should suit the slower pace in Italy, shown by his CL form, so I hold out hope.

Havent seen enough of Berbatov in a United shirt yet but he played well in the first 20 mins or so against Liverpool

I still think its £10million too much but only time will tell, as long as the trophies come pouring in im sure it will look a snip

The only other signing we made over the summer was the young guy from Roma who is supposed to be quite the prospect, ye signed for us because they gave his dad a job as a groundsman or something ludicrous like that

I'm glad we got Berby at Utd, I agree we overpaid for him by a bit, but Spurs always screw extra money out of Man Utd...paid 6 mill too much for Carrick even though I do rate him. Beginning to worry Fergie bought a turkey in Hargreaves, hes never bloody fit!

Oh and Clarkey, Amaury Bischoff is a damn good player...kinda reminds me of that Appiah that plays for Ghana...can play defensive midfield and centrally further forward

    Tottenham

Gomes - Was a shame about the goal against Villa as he had made some cracking saves before. Not certain about him yet but I'm optimistic.

Modric - Thought he was very good in the Euros and have got faith he will be a big player for us. Has shown glimpses so far and looks better in a more attacking position for Spurs since we don't have the players to do the dirty work for him in a deeper position.

Dos Santos - One for the future. I'm sure he'll have his moments this year but I think if managed wisely he will develop well, though not quite there yet.

Bentley - Not quite sure how we plan to fit him and everyone else in midfield. Once/if he is I think he will be a consistent player for us and gives us a different kind of option to our other wide players. Could be crucial as he is the kind of character we're lacking, especially with Keano gone.

Pavlyuchenko - Has really impressed me when I've seen him before. Will be hard to replace the previous strikers but I think given plenty of service he will deliver. Not sure how well he will link with Bent though, might be suited better to 4-5-1 or 4-3-2-1 if we can get the balance right.

Corluka - To be honest I never really noticed him much at Man City. Could be a good or bad thing. Hopefully he will give us some depth in numbers lacking a little at the back now.

Campbell - Again not seen much of him. A good reputation but I'll be interested to see how much his heart is in the cause.

The usual dozen summer signings for Stevenage, so here goes:

Ashley Bayes-Having seen him play in this league for a few years, I expected him to be a solid yet average keeper. He's turned out to be bloody awful, he's about 2 stone overweight but credit to the guy he's doing extra training to lose it.The trouble is he was so bad that we had to sign another goalkeeper instead who's actually very good, so he's either going to be bench warming for the rest of the season or he will have to go elsewhere.I hope he does go somewhere else though, he's reported to be on good wages and that could be better used than for a sub keeper.

Chris Day-Former QPR keeper who signed due to Bayes being crap.Ever since he's joined we have yet to concede more than one in a game and he's just generally made things a whole lot easiser for the defence with communication skills and ability to actually catch a ball on set pieces rather than fumble it.I've no doubt that if he hadn't spent the last year injured he would still be playing league football.

Michael Jordan-Nope, the NBA legend hasn't taken up another sport. This is former Arsenal youth team Keeper Michael Jordan,he's just been sub keeper before Day signed and after Bayes got injured.

Eddie Anaclet-Tanzinian right back/right winger signed from Oxford.I suppose he's done okay, very quick but the trouble is he's neither good enough defensively to be a right back nor a good enough a crosser to be a right winger.

Mark Albrighton-We actually spent money to sign him from Cambridge and it's so far looked like a waste. He's your typical thuggish centre back but with the turning speed of an artic lorry it's played into the hands of any strikers with pace.He was made captain but after less than 5 games he gave it up as he felt it was leading to his bad form, I think the fact he was starting fights with his own team mates had a bigger effect. He's played the last few games at right back, strange really that he's done okay there.

Luke Cole-Left back signed from Exeter, not played a single game game yet, barely even featured in pre-season.

Gary Mills-Was not even a regular in a team a division below us, why we signed him is still a bit of a mystery. He doesn't seem to have the ability to do anything well but still started every game this season until he had his nose broken against his former club.I guess the only good thing I can say about him is he works hard.

Michael Bostwick-He's been about the best signing of the lot.Started the season at right back, then moved the centre back before finally being moved into his best position of central midfield. He's a really tough tackling and commited player, wont be long before one of his long range shots goes in or just knocks the keeper into the middle of next week.

Andy Drury-Started the first few games before getting injured.I think Andy's a promising player but he does seem to try a model his game a bit much on David Beckham. He did manage to score a brilliant free-kick against Eastbourne though.

Ed Upson-Youngster on loan from Ipswich, they let him join us in an effort to get him first team football but he's only played about 20 minutes so far and spent the rest of the time in the reserves.I'm not sure why he's not being given a chance because by all reports he seems a very talented young player.

David Bridges-Broke his foot in pre-season, didn't look very good before that but it's a bit harsh to judge him on just a couple of friendly's.

Craig Westcarr-What a stupid saga this was, signed for us after his contract was up at Kettering, they contacted the FA to say we had tapped him up, they tell them he was a free agent so no offence commited but as he's under 24 we have to pay them compensation. After he doesn't really shine in pre-season, we decide not to bother paying for him and he goes back to Kettering.

Anthony Thomas-Was fantastic in pre-season but once the proper season got underway he's reverted back into the player he was at Barnet, i.e. a selfish sod with no end product.

Iyseden Christie-Came back for pre-season two stone overweight, got told to lose it but refused, played a couple games and didn't really bother, got shipped out on loan to Kettering until January and probably wont ever return.

Lee Boylan-Proven goalscorer at this level but he's taken until a couple of games ago for him to actually be given a chance and surprise surprise, he scored on only his second start of the season.

    Overall they've been pretty crap.

Out of interest, and slightly off topic, who else wanted to strike Arse-havin and his agent with the nearest blunt object for flaunting themselves and whining non-stop all summer.

Plus I bet he'd never even heard of Tottenham before everyone else backed out, and suddenly they're his preferred destination? Hmm... Razz

I saw Lee Boylan play for Hampton and Richmond Borough against Dagenham about 2 years after he made his only appearance for West Ham so its quite impressive he that he managed to turn his career around to be at Stevenage 9 years later.

Aye, Bayes played for Hornchurch before they went bust.

Boylan seemed to be around the block a bit before signing for Canvey Island, he scored about 150 goals for them! Only trouble with him is he's injury prone.
