Who was the runner up, Hitler?

I'm in shock. First of all Blair himself had very little to do with Northern Ireland and that was more down to John Major (who started the ball rolling) and Blair's underlings who did all the negotiation etc... and surely his actions in Kosovo are outweighed by the fact that he took us into a unpopular war based on lies and sexed-up documents.

Your being more than a little naive if you think political underlings ever get credit for anything, who ever is in No.10 when it is resolved wins, fair? Maybe not, but thats life.

Surely all wars are basicly unpopular? (Both WWs were unpopular with elements of society at the time, hindsight is wonderful) It also doesn't change the good work that he had done in the past.

Also, don't you think that the thread title is a bit OTT.

Just a bit, last year's winner was Al Gore...

Although no one wanted WWII, it was generally accepted that action had to be taken.

Bit difficult for me to keep my faith when this prize was awarded for, and I quote, "morally courageous leadership"

If Tony Bliar is being heralded example of moral courage then there is something truly wrong with the world

Or perhaps the prize isn't that prestigious...

For that amount of money it must have some prestige and there must be someone more deserving.

Al Gore won it last year, what's he ever done?!

Money doesn't give prestige to things, remember the Kaka transfer saga and the Stanford Twenty20?

Have you got any idea how much Nobel prize winners get? Or is the award more important than the money? Likewise the prime minister isn't the best paid job in the country.

As for there being someone more deserving, of cause there is, but they don't grab the headlines, which also explains the million dollar prize.
