Thats a catchy thread title!
What a fucked up place.
The 21-year-old Londoner feared his life was all but over after falling foul of laws in the Bible Belt that mean a girl only has to claim she had sex after a man got her drunk to bring a rape charge.
The police had two affidavits. One, signed by the girl’s father, charged that Chris had ‘wilfully, unlawfully and knowingly made available beer’ to the girl. The other, signed by the girl, claimed the sex was ‘not...forcible [but] without her consent’.
In Mississippi, anyone can press criminal charges without needing the support of law enforcement officials. So even when the authorities thought Chris had no case to answer, he was still dragged through the courts, while the local newspaper named him and gave his address.
What a fucked up place.

And it's not just rape laws in the deep south, it's like this all over America. In the day of bullshit lawsuits and trial lawyers with no souls, it needs to be re vamped

And it's not just America. Technically over here in sunny old England it's illegal for two kids under 16 to kiss and fondle etc (i.e. the stuff you do when you're young) because some very poorly worded statutes.

Actually I think what was illegal was you filming them at the time...

Ok I left myself open to that one!
It's completely true though. The geniuses in Parliament, when they drafted the new sex offences bill, decided that "sexual touching" was the best term to use. Technically that can include snogging at a school disco! I remember reading in the newspaper a year or two ago that a school in Worcestershire had banned hugging because of it!

To be honest, that just sounds like a typical Daily Mail story blown well out of proportion to get people enraged OMG!!!! POLITICAL CORRECTNESS GONE MAD!!!! Perhaps it could have been worded better but kids aren't going to get arrested for kissing. Relax.
