Final bids were down to Chicago, Madrid, Rio de Janeiro, and Tokyo. Chicago has just been the first city to be eliminated, with the lowest amount of votes. I was very surprised here, as Obama and his wife had just traveled to Copenhagen to push for Chicago. Tokyo was the second city eliminated.

Chicago and Rio were the two front-runners. I'm imagining a Rio win, seeing as there have never been an Olympic games in South America (summer or winter.) And Chicago losing means Minneapolis has a realistic shot for the 2020 games!

Yup, Rio got it.

Also, don't really know why you're shocked that Chicago didn't get it. Just because the Obama's and Oprah went doesn't mean it was a lock. They probably hurt more than they helped in reality. Not to mention the recent high profile violence in Chicago.
