Official Movie News and Discussion

Post  Uptown Llama of Doom on Wed Oct 15, 2008 12:57 am

So I just read that Terrence Howard is out as James Rhodes in Iron Man 2 over a salary dispute. Don Cheadle is said to be replacing him. I like Cheadle and think he's a terrific actor. However, does anyone think Howard is a fool to lose this part over money? I mean outside of Hustle and Flow, Howard hasn't made any earth shattering movies, and hasn't cemented himself as a recognizable name to the mass public.

Being that James Rhodes is War Machine, there is a strong possibility that this could've been the commercial vehicle that could have sent more main stream roles his way down the line. Which would make up for what ever crazy amount he was angry about not getting for Iron Man 2.

Just a thought really.

Does sound rather daft. Maybe he saw how big Iron Man was, and thought he deserved a bigger slice for himself since his character becomes War Machine down the line. Success probably went to his head.

Total numpty.

That said, whilst I like Cheadle, I don't think he'd work in the role. I'd look more at "the operative" from Serenity - Chitewel Ejiofor or something like that - although I also hear he's on the cards for a possible Black Panther.

And if no-one's heard, there is a cut-scene cameo by Cap on the Hulk DVD - during a shot of an ice field you can see his half buried shield and body in costume. This apparently is the shot where Leterrier said he was going to appear in the movie, but it got cut prior to the cinematic release

Oh Jaysus!! Look at this load of Bullshit......isn't this like one of the signs of the apocalypse?

What's next Miley Cyrus doing a Flashdance remake? Drake and Josh redoing Top Gun? I am sick to my stomach.

Original Footloose star Kevin Bacon has given Zac Efron his seal of approval to take on his role in a remake of the 1984 movie.

Rumours abound suggesting High School Musical director Kenny Ortega will re-team with Efron for an updated version of the musical romantic drama for Paramount studios.

Ortega recently fuelled reports by admitting there's "a real good chance that this may be a movie".

And now Bacon has given Efron his blessing to reprise the role of Ren McCormack.

He tells London radio station Heart Fm, "I met Zac briefly at an event... and we talked... only briefly... but he seemed like a really nice kid and I really do wish him all the best with it."

Old thread but since it's here there's no point in starting a new one.

Michael Bay has confirmed that Megatron will not be in Transformers 2. Somebody get the smelling salts for Rooq!

I heard Megatron was going to be in Transformers 2, but was going to appear in tank form this time round. Remember last time round though when Bay was deliberately releasing wroing information to the press in an attempt to keep the plot secret, so this could be yet another mislead from Bay.

Apparently the tank is just a new toy model that's due to be released by Hasbro.

My first thought was that (assuming it's not misinformation) it'll mean the appearance of Galvatron.

I pondered about Galvatron too, but if Hasbro have designed a new model for Megatron, and am assuming they'll have some say/knowledge of who's in the film so they know who they are making toys of, they wouldn't have made a Megatron toy for no reason would they?

Mickey Rourke is being talked about for Iron Man 2, specifically a character that is, or similar, to Crimson Dynamo. Very interesting choice.

Also, the Watchmen has had some legal disputes with Fox and Warner Bros. that threatens it being pushed back from it's March 09' release, but I've been seeing trailers starting on TV so I think it may just be monetarily settled to keep it's release on track.

Yeah, the disputes over Watchmen have been going on for ages. I'd not be overly surprised if it didn't go to court until after it got a cinema release so the courts knew wxactly how much to award in damages. Wink

But it's from Michael Bay! Laughing

Also, while I'm still going to see Watchmen, calling Zack Snyder a "visionary" on the trailer is a bit much.

Read on imbd.com that Christopher Nolan's next movie isn't a Batman movie. It's titled "Inception" and has Leonardo DiCaprio as the lead, coming out in 2010. I love Nolan movies.

Is it just me, or could Nolan possibly become one of the greatest filmmakers of all-time? As great as The Dark Knight was, his films before that are fantastic as well, and his worst work (to me, The Prestige) is far better than some directors' best work.

Also, anyone else thinking that the next Terminator movie is looking a bit Transformers-ish?

I think the Prestige is his best work.

I still think it's excellent as well, it's just that he has had better movies. In no way do I think that movie is bad, it's still an awesome flick.

The Prestige falls into the "not re-watchable once you know the twist" category for me. (That's not to say I think all films with a twist are not re-watchable once you know it.)

2009 Movies I'm most excited for:

Star Trek (May)
Angels and Demons (May)
X-Men Origins: Wolverine (May)
Inglourious Basterds (June)
Public Enemies (July)
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (July)
Sherlock Holmes (November)
Nine (December)
Imaginairum of Doctor Parnassus

And might I say, "Knowing", with Nick Cage, looks absolutely terrible. It's a terrible mix of "The Number 23", "DaVinci Code", and "The Day After Tomorrow".

Bay's statement is that the announcement was premature - They had agreed he'd direct it, they had discussed 2011 and he had asked for a 1 year break as he'd have had to go straight into it and wanted a break, so they were still workimng on the details with him when the "official statement" came out.

Wouldn't be the first time a studio had shafter their chosen director, wouldn't be the first time they'd jumped the gun either...

Oh, and latest WTF film rumour -"The Naked Gun: What 4"

Just seen a great rumour btw....Beaufoy isn't doing Wolverine 2, he's been linked to Dreamworks adaptation of Terry Pratchett's Truckers as the first part of a full Bromeliad adaptation.

Cool, not enough Pratchett on-screen presence. Give us Good Omens, damnit! And why no-one else seems to think that with the constant stream of police procedural shows out there that Guards! Guards! and the City Watch books aren't an ideal movie franchise is totally beyond me!
