Official Comics thread

Post  Garibaldi on Mon Sep 22, 2008 7:47 pm

Anyone reading any of Secret Invasion at all? For me it's been a huge wuss out that 1. Only a handful of known characters have turned out to be skrulls, 2. Not one was really a "major player", 3. That you knew, due to the deaths of certain characters not revealling skrulls who the imposters were in the savage land and 4. No major character dead to at least give some sort of impact to the MU.

I'm still assuming that the Skrulls will be revealed to be behind killing Cap and that there is an urevealed one (one seems pretty obvious when you think about it
Spoiler:
Angel - the feathered "Uncanny" one, not the "occasional Archangel" one in X-Force - IIRC you actually see both in X-Men: Secret Invasion, there's a "who's the guy with the metal wings" reference from someone who I'm pretty sure has met Warren before, and Scott's line about why they aren't infiltrated just telegraphs that they are to me.
in the X-Men, but there were so many more things that they could have had their influence on and which have had no or questionable explanations previously - Quicksilver in causing House of M, Apocalypse's return from the dead, The Sentry (no-one remembered him - what if he was never there to remember?), Wasp triggering Wanda's breakdown in disassembled, Bishop turning on the X-Men, Sinister's Marauders returning, Maria Hill turning on Cap so abruptly, the fake magneto (to complete the retconning of Morrison's run's denoument), Osbourne/Gwen Stacey, the Storm/Black Panther romance, the whole "secondary mutation" thing.....and that's just the recent things they could have considered.

Oh, and Claremont has completely ruined Exiles. Total steaming pile at times now. Reads more like early excalibur without the warmth and ignoring the fact that comic books have moved on sincethe mid eighties.

I'm currently reading Final Crisis. I'm mostly enjoying the main book, but the tie-ins are weak as fuck.

My current reccomendations are: Captain Britain & MI:13 and Booster Gold. They are awesome in comics form.

Am also reading secret invasion. Really liked how the Mighty Avenger tie in helped develop
Spoiler:
the return of Nick Fury.

I dont think it did much, it was more a pilot issue for secret warriors, iv prefferd the more Skrully parts of SI, the Captain America issue of NA was brilliantly tragic i felt, oh and whilst im on that subject, Skrulls have nothing to do with the death of cap, thats all in Bru's book, no outside influences.

But the ssitaution he was in was due to Bendis, and if they knew they wanted to kill him, all they needed to do was have Bru write it in a way to leave Bendis with an available way in.

Did they ever confirm why she was brainwashed to shoot him? If they haven't then who's to say it wasn't Skrulls?

Oh dude if you need to read Cap i wont fill you in on those details but you need to read that book its marvels best ongoing by a contry mile, but rest assured, Steve Rogers is not coming back for a long time, and the skrulls where not involved.

I know the basics, I know about the clone in the vat and the "but I killed you" line, and also Punisher being a stopgap replacement, Clint/Hawkeye/Ronin turning down the chance to take over and Bucky now wearing the costume including a gun and knife, but I still don't see that anything has conclusively ruled out Skrull manipulation of Red Skull/Crossbones/Faustus.

He'd have been a leader, and they've made a point of taking out the others (Iron Man via the virus, Black Bolt since (probably) the Illuminati started and Reed via Lyta). If my X-men hunch is right they've got to current figurehead mutant Scott Summers' best friend, they had the leader of the Hand (Electra), the number one Hydra agent (Spider-Woman) and the leader of the Initiative (Hank Pym), so why not take steps to remove Cap? They even tried for Fury when he was AWOL through Valeria, Dum Dum AND Drew. Thor was dead, Xavier disowned. No-one else really left. Take out the leaders and the army will be less effective.

Anything can be retconned, and Bendis is their golden boy at the mo through his multi-year crossover approach.

Still don't believe Storm is Storm either, tbh

Ok dude honestly take my word for it, bru's golden boy number 2 and he has promised there is no outside interfearence on this, its a cap and cap only story, and to be honest its the best thing marvel have done by far for a long long time, pic up the trades. reallllllly pick up the trades, you'll understand then.

Anyway, somethings definately up with Warren - Pixie interacts with both versions in X-men: secret invasion #2 but has no idea who the "metal winged guy" is...

So unless skrulls got the "Apocalypse strain" (or created it as it never existed before), looks like feathery Warren is defo a skrull

Warren reverted back to Arkangle 2 issues ago in in x force, so think its a safe bet that angle could be a skrull, but marvel have been pretty tight on the cheap skrull reveals, so im not sure its not something else, who knows?

also will anyone else be picking up Incognito

Looks like its going to be my book of the year.

I know the whole "X-force" thing, but given that pixie drops off Warren and Paige for an attack, then gets rescued by archangel + X-Force at the end, it just implies that the two are different entities (thus explaining the X-Force/Uncanny inconsistencies). Surely if the two were the same person able to switch then Pixie would have known before playing bait.

He also fits the Benids-given description of replacements...people who are distant, easy to replace and who will be noticed less when they're out of character. Warren is missing for years at a time from X-men, is generally distant, even from best friends like Scott...surely the easiest to replace

I dont see it adding to much to the storie though, the whole storie for x men secret invasion is that the skrull where unprepaired for the fact that the x man are now working out of san fran. and the revieal would have been in the main book, as such it doesnt really do much does little for uncanny nothing for astonishing and we dont even know if arcangles going to be reacuring in x force, as well as the anti skrull ray from issue 5 of SI im sure that this is more an x men mystery than a skrull thing.

Just seconding Stu's reccomendation of Cap. Good God that book rules. I got the Omnibus Hardcover of the first 25 issues, and it rules so fucking much. If you're not already reading the book, you fail at life.

I'm not joking.

Hulk really is a pile of shite. Sadly, I'll be picking up issue 6 as well. I'm morbidly curious as to how far Marvel is willing to let Loeb go.

"And in the next issue, Red Hulk is going to rape your Grandma's corpse Joe! It'll be awesome!"

ETA:

This week, I'll be getting:

Ambush Bug: Year None #3
Angel Revelations #5
Avengers The Initiative #17
Black Panther #41
Captain America #42
Deadpool #2
Fantastic Four #560
Hulk #6
Immortal Iron Fist Orson Randall And The Death Queen Of California
Marvel 1985 #5
Ms Marvel #31
New Avengers #45
Nova Vol 4 #17
Secret Invasion Amazing Spider-Man #2
She-Hulk 2 #33
Thunderbolts #124
Wolverine First Class #7
X-Force #7 (and possibly #6, I don't remember getting it)

God, I'm glad I got paid yesterday.

Think of the last 46 issues as the introduction story for the new Captain America.

I didn't read comics at all prior to Civil War. My first issue of Cap is #21 or something. I've also read his House of M issues, but they don't really count.
