Post  Garibaldi on Mon Sep 15, 2008 7:49 pm

Any problems, pop them here and I can see what I can do.

I know about the "reply with quote" button btw

Re: Fault Line

Post  Garibaldi on Mon Sep 22, 2008 2:39 pm

As far as the problems last night and the subsequent blank posts are concerned, I am not sure what went on. I had the same problem with the "general error" message whe I got home from work at 6.30 this morning, and so did forumotion (the site hosting the forum) so I can only assume it was an error their end.

If anyone knows if there was anything specific about the posts which are now blank (I know, for example, that the "design a logo" thread lost the contents of a few with images), then that may help us work out if something affected things and maybe try and avoid it.

If they don't restore naturally in the next day or two, I'll probably try and delete the blank ones just to tidy the threads up. If you remember what you said in them, why not edit the post?

Edit: I've run a restore on the forum to early this morning - this may fix the blank posts - I don't know. Haven't noticed anything different yet. If anything has vanished from the last few hours that's why.

I think it's OK now, it was either the bland posts or just not getting into the site at all.

Forumotion have popped this on their forum...

We understand all your concerns, techs are working on all technical issues as we are talking, things are coming back to normal right now so please be patient until your forum is fully operational again
All posts from sunday morning to this morning are for the moment lost, I can't confirm you that they will reappear for the moment.

Sorry for the inconvenience!

So we may/may not get back what was there before, but their support forum is chocca with people reporting the same issues, so it's not just a reaction to DX-superkick arriving Razz

A lot of my posts are either being deleted or not appearing again in the last 24 hours.

Any ideas?

See where it mentions DFS sofa's on the front page in the wee introduction but for the lounge forum, can you remove the apostrophe from sofa's please - it will eventually drive me lose the plot in a "Falling Down" style if it remains like that for much longer.

Thank you Smile

The Stig would like to remind you of the rules such as rule number 5:

5. There is no need to point out persistent rule breakers. We will find them. Similarly don't point out grammatical or spelling errors. It's annoying and petty.

But this is constructive and understandable. I put everything together in a rush and thought I'd caught the cock-ups. I missed that one. Ho hum

Yeah, I wouldn't point out a spelling error in someone's post Banzai but when it is on the main page of the site forever then I thought Garibaldi would want to know about it.

Thanks for reminding me of that rule though.

Are the forums sometimes a bit slow for anyone else?

I have a decent Broadband & I've had no problems with other websites, but sometimes on the forums certain pages take a while to load.

Is there any chance the colour scheme could be tweaked? It was never really a problem until I tried using the hr tag today. It's white, so it doesn't work on a pale background at all.

Also, the main background (with the gradient colours) makes the text regarding current time unviewable if the page is scrolled down at all.

I don't think links stand out that well, could they be underlined?

I'm assuming you've put a moderator's area in the same sub-section as The Private Lounge (known as "Backstage") because Backstage is now marked with new posts, despite the Private Lounge being read. It's quite annoying. Sad

So? Could have responded. Don't need to write a question to gain a response, seeing as this is to report any problems.

Also, my last question in this thread was ignored.

Or, he could just not group it with the Private Lounge...

Ah, but he clearly wanted a reply. Noneed to reply to a statement like that one unless it's prefaced with 'Have You', which then makes it a question.

I agree it's not worded brilliantly, but I imagine he would like some sort of idea of whether the problem will be fixed or not. Otherwise he could've just PM'd Garibaldi instead of posting in this thread.

If you look at the thread though most of the other faults reported don't get a response. The point of this thread is to stop Gari's inbox getting crowded with minor stuff.

Anyway, I think we've discussed this waaay too much since it started with what was basically a small shot taken at The Stig by myself! Neutral

Ok boys, calm down! Wink

Stiggie, remember we are all still posters as well as mods/admins. You take cheeky digs at us, we at you. It's what Smash does - we're good at it, so why change lol!

Fair enough about the icon - I wasn't expecting it at first - seemed logical to pull the private sections together and thought it would recognise the permissions difference. It is a glitch in the system I think - I can understand the niggle there. I'll take a look and move it if neccessary.

This is why I brought the guys in btw- because it's easier for someone to come in every day when there's 3 of us. Nice job Sweatsock!
